Moving can be very stressful and overwhelming at times. Have you ever had one of those days when everything is going so well and all of a sudden you don’t know which way to turn? Well, at A Storage Inn we can help you with all the moving supplies you will need to make your move a rewarding accomplishment. After all you want to avoid the chaos moving can cause.

1

There is a big difference between Order and Chaos, Don’t take the wrong turn.

TIMING IS IMPORTANT

You should start packing 4 or 5 weeks before your initial move date. Pack one room at a time and just the things that you won’t need. By doing this you will cut down on the stress on moving day.

Set a Date and Time

USE CLEAN BOXES

Boxes from grocery stores are not always clean (especially produce boxes) even though they may seem clean, sometimes boxes keep an odor from the produce that was in it which may attract vermin. Remember vermin will pick up a scent that the human nose won’t. Especially if your belongings are going into storage.

Used boxes (no telling what is living in them)!

WILL YOUR THINGS BE GOING INTO STORAGE

Make sure you clean everything before you pack it. If you have small appliances such as toasters, microwave ovens, fryers, blenders etc.. You should always clean any residue and crumbs out of it before packing it. You should also make sure you don’t pack clothes that have been worn and not washed because mice will be attracted to them. Now you have a big problem!

DE Clutter!

Separate your belongings into 2 piles, things to keep and things to throw away. Whether you are putting your things in storage or moving into a new home you want to get rid of anything you don’t use or need. It is a lot easier to just throw something out than it is to pack it, haul it and unpack it again. If you don’t want to throw it away you can donate it or just give it away because this is the perfect time to DE clutter. After all don’t you have enough to pack and move?

DE clutter, do you really need all of this?

NOW LET’S GET STARTED

Plan your move by making a list of what you need to pack and how you will be packing it.

We offer boxes that range from small to wardrobe size along with tape, mattress covers, sofa and chair covers, bubble wrap, White newsprint packing paper, forearm forklifts and more…

YOU WILL NEED BOXES

21

  • Use small boxes for items such as books, magazines, silverware, dishes, etc… These types of items when boxed up have a lot of weight so you don’t want to put these items in large boxes that may break when you lift them, not to mention the wear and tear on your back from the weight of the box.
  • Use medium boxes for items such as breakable knick-knack where you will be using wrapping paper, bubble wrap or peanuts to protect them from breakage.
  • Use large or extra-large boxes for things such as clothes, linens, bedding etc…
  • Use wardrobe boxes for the clothes you want to keep on hangers- These boxes are sturdy and come complete with a metal hanger bar.

** REMEMBER WHEN STACKING BOXES ALWAYS PUT THE HEAVIEST BOXES ON THE BOTTOM **

DON’T FORGET THE TAPE!

When taping your boxes you should use either the “H” or the “X” method.

  • “H” taping- the middle of the “H” is the middle seam of the box (tape that first)
  • Then put a strip of tape all the way down both sides where the flaps were folded in.
  • “X” taping- if the box is really heavy go over the “H” with the “X”

22                               23

With the “X” method you would tape from corner to corner. This will help to reinforce the bottom of the box.

After taping your boxes make sure the tape is flat and sticking to the box. When you are finished filling the box close the top and use the “H” method of taping.

WILL YOU BE WRAPPING DELICATE ITEMS (SUCH AS GRANDMA’S ANTIQUE LAMPS)?

A Storage Inn has bubble wrap and peanuts for breakable antiques, treasured keepsakes, irreplaceable pictures and mirrors. It is recommended that you wrap them in bubble wrap before packing in a box. Make sure the box is not too big that the item in it move around.   If this happens shove more paper around the sides of the box to steady the items. The less it moves around in the box, the less chance of breakage. You can also pack them in a box with our biodegradable peanuts.

DID YOU FORGET ABOUT THE COLLECTABLES IN THE CHINA CABINET AND CURIO?

Now you have come to the curio cabinet and you just finished cleaning all of your knick-knack but it is now time to pack them.   Using printed newspapers to wrap your collectables will bleed ink on everything and the ink will turn your hands black, so everything you touch will also have the black ink on it.

Do you really want to rewash all of your dishes and knick-knack’s when you get to your new house?

WE HAVE THE ANSWER TO THAT

Use white newsprint packing paper for these items. With the white newsprint you can unpack straight from the box to the cabinet and because there is no ink you will save yourself a lot of time not having to rewash everything.

WHAT ABOUT THOSE HEAVY APPLIANCES AND FURNITURE?

WILL YOU BENEFIT BY HAVING A FOREARM FORKLIFT?

The answer to this question is “YES” with the forearm forklift you can save wear and tear on your body. The forearm forklift allows you to use your body’s strength by lowering the center of gravity of the item you are lifting and allows you to move freely without the bulkiness and awkwardness of a furniture dolly. The forearm forklift can be used on multiple household furnishings which are hard to grasp such as refrigerators, sofa’s, mattresses, box springs, curio cabinets, china cabinets, large overweight tool chests, heavy bedroom dresser’s and armoire’s the uses are endless. When you are finished with it you can fold it up, put it in a drawer and save it for when you decide you want to move a heavy piece of furniture.   Your husband will no longer say he will have to wait until he can get some help. You can just pull the forearm forklift out of the drawer and tell him “HELP IS HERE’
